BIOGRAPHY

Dr Mónica Berger González

Monica Gonzalez is a Guatemalan medical anthropologist graduated from Universidad del Valle de Guatemala (UVG) with a PhD in Science from ETH Zurich. She leads the Unit of Medical Anthropology at the Center for Health Studies in UVG and is an associate researcher in One Health Approaches at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, Basel University.

Mónica works in applied research for public health at the interface of indigenous Maya medicine and modern biomedicine, leading many international collaborations with a focus on intercultural transdisciplinary processes.

Prof. Manuel Spitschan

Prof. Dr. Manuel Spitschan's research area is the effect of light on physiology and behaviour in humans, in particular on the internal clock, circadian rhythm and sleep.

In his research, Prof. Spitschan combines methods of chronobiology with state-of-the-art methods for measuring, characterizing and presenting light stimuli, both in the laboratory and in the field.

Prof. Dr. Spitschan studied psychology at the University of St Andrews and received his doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania. From 2016 to 2017 he was a post-doc at Stanford University and from 2017 to 2021 a Sir Henry Wellcome Fellow and then University Research Lecturer (2020–2021). In January 2022, Prof. Dr. Spitschan was appointed to the Rudolf Mößbauer Tenure Track Assistant Professorship for Chronobiology & Health, jointly appointed to a Max Planck Research Group at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics.

He is a member of Daylight Academy.
